Aluminum bromide is a white to yellowish crystalline compound with the chemical formula AlBr3. It is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis, particularly in the Friedel-Crafts reaction to produce alkylated and acylated aromatic compounds. Aluminum bromide is also employed in the production of pharmaceuticals and other chemicals. It is highly reactive and corrosive, posing risks of skin, eye, and respiratory irritation upon exposure. Proper handling, storage, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are essential to ensure safety.
