O-Ring Groove & Seal Design
What is the best way to design an O-ring groove?
The Canyon Components Reference Hub has guides on how to best produce most O-ring grooves depending on your application. For the purposes of safety, Canyon Components strongly encourages all users of the reference hub thoroughly test all groove designs before going into production. Canyon Components does not guarantee that any standard guide will produce results that will fully meet your custom application. If more assistance is needed, feel free to get in touch with the Canyon engineering team. From O-rings and gaskets to custom molded parts, assemblies, and valves and fittings, Canyons engineering team is at your service!
How long will the operating life be for my O-rings and seals?
Unfortunately, the best way to determine the operating life of an O-ring or seal is in-application testing. There is not yet a reliable way to accurately predict the lifespan of an O-ring or seal in application without testing.
What material should I be using for my application?
The recommended material for any given application is based on many variables, including temperature, chemical contact, pressure, dynamic system vs static system, and more. If assistance is needed, feel free to get in touch with the Canyon engineering team. Whether you require O-rings, gaskets, custom molded parts, custom assemblies, or valves and fittings, Canyons engineering team is ready to assist!
What are the pressure levels that my O-Ring can handle?
The general groove design guide extrusion chart will help you determine what pressures your O-Ring can handle. If more information is needed, feel free to get in touch with the Canyon engineering team. For top-notch O-rings, gaskets, custom molded parts, custom assemblies, and valves and fittings, rely on the expertise of the Canyon Components engineering team.
Why are my parts failing?
A part could be failing for any number of reasons and will require a failure analysis. Feel free to get in touch with the Canyon engineering team and we will help you diagnose the issue and provide a solution! Need help with O-rings, gaskets, custom molded parts, custom assemblies, or valves and fittings? Reach out to the Canyon Components engineering team for assistance.

Elastomeric Materials
What is the difference between the the types of Fluorocarbon (FKM, Viton) rubber?
The performance can vary significantly between the different types of FKM. For example, GLTs have improved low temperature performance, while ETPs have improved chemical resistance. For a detailed explanation, check out our FKM Viton Page. If you have further questions about materials, feel free to get in touch with the Canyon engineering team and we will help you diagnose the issue and provide a solution! Trust the expertise of the Canyon Components engineering team to provide tailored solutions for O-rings, gaskets, custom molded parts, custom assemblies, and valves and fittings.
What is the shelf life for my parts?
The shelf life can vary depending on the type of material the part is made from. Contact the Canyon sales team for information specific to your parts. Canyons Components' sales team is here to guide you in selecting the right O-rings, gaskets, custom molded parts, custom assemblies, or valves and fittings for your needs.
Can I get an MSDS for a Canyon Components material?
O-rings, gaskets, and cured polymeric parts are considered "mechanical goods" by OSHA regulations and therefor do not require an MSDS. If you have further questions about materials, feel free to get in touch with the Canyon engineering team and we will help you diagnose the issue and provide a solution! Discover high-quality O-rings, gaskets, custom molded parts, custom assemblies, and valves and fittings with expert support from the Canyon Components engineering team.

Canyon Compounds & Post Processing
Are test reports available for Canyon materials?
Yes! Get in touch with our engineering team and we can provide a datasheet with test reports for any material. If there is specific testing that you require that we have not yet performed, let us know what you require and we will work on finding a solution or performing the necessary tests. Our Canyon Components engineering team is your dedicated resource for O-rings, gaskets, custom molded parts, custom assemblies, and valves and fittings.
Why do my rubber parts appear to have a powdery substance on the surface?
Some elastomeric materials excrete some non-reactive catalysts used in the curing process. This ends up as a white, gray, or yellowish powder on the surface of the parts called bloom. Bloom does not typically have any effect on the functionality of a seal. If you require a material that does not bloom, be sure to mention it to the Canyon engineering team and we will make sure to provide components that meet your needs. Explore a wide array of products, including O-rings, gaskets, custom molded parts, custom assemblies, and valves and fittings, with help from the Canyon Components engineering team.
Can Canyon provide surface coatings for my O-rings and my rubber or plastic parts?
Absolutely! Depending on your needs, we can coat any part in PTFE (Teflon), Parylene, Plasma Nanocoating, and any other external lubrication you might require. These coatings typically come with an additional processing fee. If you require parts with surface coatings, be sure to mention it to the Canyon engineering team. From O-rings to gaskets, custom molded parts, custom assemblies, and valves and fittings, the Canyon Components engineering team is here to assist you.
What lubricants am I able to use with my O-rings and rubber or plastic parts?
Lubricant usage depends entirely on the compatibility of the base material. Let the Canyon engineering team know your requirements and we can provide a solution specific to your application. Need support with O-rings, gaskets, custom molded parts, custom assemblies, or valves and fittings? Our Canyon Components engineering team is at your service!

Material Colors
Is it possible to identify my O-rings or rubber or plastic parts by its color?

If you need to identify a material, contact the Canyon engineering team and we will work to solve your problem. Rely on the Canyon Components engineering team for assistance with O-rings, gaskets, custom molded parts, custom assemblies, and valves and fittings.
Am I able to get a specific color part for my application?
Yes, let our engineering team know what your specific color requirements are and we will meet them. It's possible that we already have a material compounded in the color you require, but we can develop a new material for your application if necessary. Whether it's O-rings, gaskets, custom molded parts, custom assemblies, or valves and fittings, count on the Canyon Components engineering team to provide comprehensive support for your needs.
