Hydrofluorosilicic acid is a colorless, highly corrosive liquid with the chemical formula H₂SiF₆. It is primarily used in water fluoridation, providing a source of fluoride ions to prevent dental cavities. Additionally, it is used in the production of aluminum, ceramics, and glass, as well as in metal surface treatment and cleaning processes. Despite its industrial importance, hydrofluorosilicic acid poses significant health risks, including severe burns and respiratory irritation. Proper handling, storage, and the use of personal protective equipment are crucial to ensure safety. Adequate ventilation and spill containment measures are also necessary to prevent accidents and exposure.
