METHYL ETHYL KETONE Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Methyl ethyl ketone, commonly abbreviated as MEK and also known as 2-butanone with the formula C4H8O, is a colorless, volatile solvent widely used in coatings, adhesives, inks, cleaning agents, and paint remover formulations. It is also used as a chemical intermediate in various manufacturing processes. Because of its strong solvent properties, compatibility with O-rings, rubber seals, gaskets, and plastic components should be evaluated to prevent swelling or material degradation. MEK is highly flammable and may cause skin and respiratory irritation, so proper storage, ventilation, handling procedures, and appropriate PPE are recommended.
