PYROSULFURIC ACID Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Pyrosulfuric Acid, also known as oleum or fuming sulfuric acid, is a highly concentrated form of sulfuric acid containing dissolved sulfur trioxide (SO3). It appears as a colorless to pale yellow oily liquid with a pungent odor. Pyrosulfuric Acid is used in various industrial processes, including the production of chemicals, dyes, and explosives. It is employed as a sulfonating agent in the synthesis of organic compounds and as a dehydrating agent in certain chemical reactions. Additionally, Pyrosulfuric Acid is used in the production of sulfuric acid by the contact process. Its high reactivity and strong acidic properties make it valuable in numerous applications. However, Pyrosulfuric Acid is highly corrosive and should be handled with extreme care. Proper safety measures should be taken during its use and storage.
