Xenon is a chemical element with the symbol Xe and atomic number 54. It is a colorless, dense, odorless noble gas found in trace amounts in the Earth's atmosphere. Xenon is used in various applications due to its unique properties, including in lighting (e.g., xenon arc lamps, flash lamps, and photographic flashes) and in medical imaging (e.g., as a general anesthetic and in imaging of the brain). It is also employed in the production of ion propulsion systems for spacecraft. Xenon's high atomic number makes it valuable in radiation detection and protection.
