Medical & Pharmaceutical
Canyon Components offers an array of USP Class VI tested materials that can be used to manufacture standard parts like O-rings and sanitary seals, as well as custom parts of any geometry. Depending on the material blend, we can provide USP Class VI <87> and <88>. We can also offer multiple additional sanitary manufacturing conditions depending on your requirements.
- USP Class VI: USP Class VI materials undergo an array of cytotoxicity tests that aim to certify that a material is biocompatible by proving that it doesn't leach any chemicals that have harmful reactions or long term bodily effects. These tests are designed to assess systemic biological reactivity when the material in question makes contact with mammalian cells. It's commonly used for O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts.
- USP Class VI <87>: USP Class VI <87> is a set of in-vitro cytotoxicity tests involving agar diffusion, elution assays, and direct contact. It's commonly used for O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts.
- USP Class VI <88>: USP Class VI <88> is a set of in-vivo cytotoxicity tests involving direct implantation, intracutaneous injection, and systemic injection studies. It's commonly used for O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts.

Food Grade
Canyon Components offers an array of FDA compliant materials that can be used to manufacture standard parts like O-rings and sanitary seals, as well as custom parts of any geometry. The specification typically used to define Canyon elastomers compliance to FDA standards is FDA CFR 21.177.2600 sections A, B, C, D, E, & F depending on the use case of the final component.
- Dry Foods (A-D): This section of CFR 21.177.2600 describes the regulations and the composition necessary for rubber O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded articles intended for repeated use in applications involving dry foods. It defines ingredients that are allowed in the production process of rubber parts, O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts.
- Aqueous Foods (A-E): Section E of CFR 21.177.2600 describes the extractable limitations under specific conditions of rubber O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded articles intended for use in applications where the articles contact aqueous foods.
- Fatty Foods (A-F): Section F of CFR 21.177.2600 describes the extractable limitations under specific conditions of rubber O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded articles intended for use in applications where the articles contact fatty foods.
It is important to note that the FDA does not "approve" products, rather it is up to the manufacturer to certify to FDA CFR 21.177.2600 compliance.
- NSF 51 / ANSI 51: NSF 51 compliant Canyon Components materials are also commonly used in the food manufacturing industry. This certification defines the requirements necessary in manufacturing plastics and rubbers that are used in various food equipment and food contact applications. NSF has based these requirements on certain FDA regulations.
- EU 1935/2004: The EU 1935/2004 regulation is a key piece of legislation regarding materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. Parts that are compliant with this regulation must meet specific criteria to ensure they are safe for food contact. These parts are typically made from materials that do not release harmful substances into the food, maintaining the food's quality and safety. The regulation covers a wide range of materials, including plastics, ceramics, glass, metals, and paper. EU 1935/2004 compliant parts are designed to withstand the conditions of their intended use, such as temperature changes and cleaning processes, without degrading or affecting the food product.

Drinking Water
Canyon Components offers an array of materials formulated for use in drinking water applications. These materials can be used to manufacture standard parts like O-rings and sanitary seals, as well as custom parts of any geometry.
- NSF 61: Canyon offers many NSF 61 materials. NSF 61 defines the minimum health requirements for the chemical contaminants and impurities that are imparted into drinking water via the material in question. It covers materials, O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts that come in contact with drinking water and drinking water treatment chemicals.
- KTW: Similar to NSF 61, KTW certification is aimed at providing minimum health standards for chemical contaminants and impurities that are imparted from O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts into drinking water. KTW is most commonly used in German markets.
- WRAS: The Water Regulations Approval Scheme (WRAS) is a UK based certification body that defines material regulations that certain plumbing products must adhere to, including O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts.

It is widely used across the rubber industry for the production of O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts. ASTM D 2000 provides a great standardized system to define a materials capabilities and compare performance. Most Canyon Components elastomers have been tested using ASTM D 2000.
- NACE TM0297: NACE TM0297 materials have undergone specific testing to show the materials performance under high pressure carbon dioxide applications where explosive decompression is a risk. It is common for materials, O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts that have undergone NACE TM0297 testing to be considered "anti-explosive decompression" (AED).
- NORSOK M-710: Similar to NACE, NORSOK M-710 materials have undergone specific testing to show the materials performance under high pressure carbon dioxide applications where explosive decompression is a risk. It is common for materials, O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts that have undergone NORSOK M-710 testing to be considered "anti-explosive decompression" (AED). NORSOK M-710 also tests chemical compatibility in sour gas.
