POTASSIUM SULFIDE Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Potassium Sulfide (K2S) is an inorganic compound that appears as a yellow to brown crystalline solid with a strong odor of rotten eggs due to the release of hydrogen sulfide gas upon contact with moisture. It is highly soluble in water, forming a strongly alkaline solution. This compound is primarily used in the leather industry for the removal of hair from hides during the tanning process. Potassium Sulfide also finds applications in the production of specialty glasses and as a precursor in the synthesis of various sulfur-containing compounds. In the field of analytical chemistry, it is used as a reagent for the detection of metal ions. Additionally, Potassium Sulfide is utilized in the production of certain dyes and pigments, as well as in the preparation of photographic developers.
