XYLIDINE Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Xylidine refers to a mixture of six isomeric amines derived from xylene with the chemical formula C₆H₃(CH₃)₂NH₂. These compounds are used primarily as intermediates in the production of dyes, particularly azo dyes, and other chemicals. Xylidine is also employed in the manufacture of rubber chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals. Due to its toxic and potentially carcinogenic properties, xylidine must be handled with care, including the use of personal protective equipment and proper ventilation. It is a colorless to yellow liquid with a characteristic odor, and its applications are mainly industrial.
