Features of FS-Seals
FS-Seals offer several advanced features that make them suitable for harsh environments:
- Explosive Decompression (AED) Resistance: One of the key features of FS-Seals is their resistance to explosive decompression, also known as rapid gas decompression (RGD). Most FS-Seal materials are tested to NACE TM0297, NORSOK M-710, or API 6A to prove their performance in high CO2 content AED environments and sour gas. This makes them ideal for high-pressure applications in the oil and gas industry.
- High-Pressure Tolerance: FS-Seals are designed to withstand extreme pressures, ensuring reliable sealing even in the most challenging conditions.
- Temperature Resistance: FS-Seals can operate effectively across a wide temperature range, from extreme cold to high heat, maintaining their integrity and performance.
- Chemical Resistance: These seals offer excellent resistance to aggressive chemicals, including oils, gases, and other harsh substances commonly encountered in industrial environments.
- Durability: Built to last, FS-Seals provide long-term performance in demanding applications, reducing the need for frequent replacements and maintenance.
Common Applications of FS-Seals
FS-Seals are used in a variety of industries, but they are particularly essential in the oil and gas sector. Common applications include:
- Wellheads: In wellheads, FS-Seals provide critical sealing to prevent leaks and ensure safe operation under high pressure and temperature conditions. Their AED resistance is especially important in these applications, where sudden pressure changes can occur.
- Downhole Tools: FS-Seals are used in downhole tools in oil and gas exploration and production, where they must withstand harsh conditions and maintain performance over long periods.
- Subsea Equipment: FS-Seals are used in subsea valves, connectors, and other equipment that operates in extreme depths, where high pressure and aggressive environments demand superior sealing performance.
- Hydraulic Systems: In hydraulic systems, FS-Seals ensure reliable sealing in pumps, actuators, and other components, where maintaining pressure and preventing leaks are essential.
- Chemical Processing: In chemical processing plants, FS-Seals provide sealing solutions that resist aggressive chemicals and high temperatures, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile)
Hydrogenated Nitrile anti-explosive decompression materials for FS-Seals, O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts offer higher strength and reduced degradation at high temperatures compared to conventional Nitrile materials. These properties make HNBR materials popular in the oil and gas industry, as well as many applications in the chemical industry.
XNBR (Carboxylated Nitrile)
XNBR anti-explosive decompression materials for FS-Seals, gaskets, & custom molded parts are similar to Nitrile, but the backbone has been chemically modified with a Carboxylic Acid group. The resulting elastomer is a Nitrile rubber with outstanding abrasion and chemical resistance, superior to that of traditional Nitrile.
PTFE (Teflon)
The harshest environments require specialized solutions. Often times, a Canyon Components PTFE Spring Energized Seals are used in harsh chemical environments. FS-Seals in the Oil and Gas Industry
The oil and gas industry places some of the most demanding requirements on sealing components, and FS-Seals are specifically designed to meet these challenges:
- AED Resistance: In oil and gas applications, FS-Seals are often exposed to rapid pressure changes that can cause standard seals to fail due to explosive decompression. FS-Seals are engineered to resist this phenomenon, ensuring reliable performance in wellheads, subsea equipment, and downhole tools.
- Wellhead Applications: Wellheads are critical components in oil and gas production, where maintaining a secure seal is essential for safety and efficiency. FS-Seals are used in wellheads to prevent leaks, withstand high pressures, and resist the aggressive chemicals found in drilling fluids and production environments.
- Long-Term Durability: The harsh conditions of oil and gas operations, including exposure to corrosive substances, extreme temperatures, and high pressures, demand seals that can perform reliably over time. FS-Seals are built to last, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
