ACETYLENE DICHLORIDE Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Acetylene dichloride, also known as 1,2-dichloroethene, is a colorless liquid with a mild, sweet odor, represented by the chemical formula C2H2Cl2. It exists in two isomeric forms: cis-1,2-dichloroethene and trans-1,2-dichloroethene. This compound is used primarily as a solvent in the extraction and purification of organic compounds. It is also employed as an intermediate in the production of various chemicals, including pharmaceuticals, dyes, and polymers. Acetylene dichloride is produced by the chlorination of acetylene or ethylene. It is relatively non-toxic but can cause irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory system upon exposure. Proper handling and storage in a cool, well-ventilated area away from sources of ignition are essential to ensure safety. Personal protective equipment (PPE) should be used to prevent exposure. Always refer to the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for detailed safety and handling instructions.
