ACETOL Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics

Acetol, also known as hydroxyacetone, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C3H6O2. It is a colorless liquid with a sweet odor and is used as a solvent and intermediate in the production of various chemicals. Acetol is produced by the partial oxidation of propylene glycol or glycerol. It serves as a building block in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, flavors, and fragrances. In addition, acetol is used in the manufacture of resins, plastics, and other polymeric materials. The compound is also employed in the cosmetic industry for its moisturizing properties. Although acetol is relatively non-toxic, it can cause skin and eye irritation upon contact. Proper handling and storage in a cool, well-ventilated area away from sources of ignition are essential to ensure safety. Personal protective equipment (PPE) should be used to prevent exposure and ensure safe handling.
