Aluminum sodium sulfate, also known as sodium alum, is a white crystalline compound with the chemical formula NaAl(SO4)2·12H2O. It is used as a coagulant in water treatment, a mordant in dyeing and printing textiles, and in the manufacture of paper and cosmetics. Aluminum sodium sulfate is also employed in fireproofing materials and as a leavening agent in baking powder. It is relatively non-toxic but can cause skin and eye irritation.
