Butyl mercaptan is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a strong odor, represented by the chemical formula C4H10S. It is used as an odorant in natural gas, as a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of other organic compounds, and in the rubber industry. Butyl mercaptan is highly flammable and can cause skin and respiratory irritation upon exposure. Proper handling, storage, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are essential to ensure safety.
