Calcium sulfide is a white to grayish crystalline compound with the chemical formula CaS. It is used in the manufacture of luminous paints, fireworks, and certain chemicals. Calcium sulfide can release hydrogen sulfide gas, which is highly toxic and flammable, posing significant health and safety risks. Proper handling, storage, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are essential to ensure safety when working with calcium sulfide.
