Chloral, also known as trichloroacetaldehyde, is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor, represented by the chemical formula C2HCl3O. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of chloral hydrate and other chemicals. Chloral is relatively non-toxic but can cause skin and respiratory irritation upon exposure. Proper handling, storage, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are essential to ensure safety.
