HYDROCARBONS, SATURATED Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Saturated hydrocarbons, also known as alkanes or paraffins, are organic compounds consisting entirely of single-bonded carbon and hydrogen atoms. Their general formula is CnH2n+2. These hydrocarbons are found in natural gas and petroleum and are used as fuels, lubricants, and solvents. Common examples include methane, ethane, propane, and butane. Saturated hydrocarbons are relatively stable and less reactive compared to unsaturated hydrocarbons. They burn cleanly, producing water and carbon dioxide, making them valuable as energy sources. However, their combustion can contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, and proper handling is necessary to minimize environmental impact.
