Anhydrous hydrogen iodide (HI) is a colorless gas with a sharp, pungent odor, used in various industrial processes. It is highly soluble in water, forming hydriodic acid. Anhydrous HI is utilized in organic synthesis, the production of iodine-containing compounds, and as a reducing agent in chemical reactions. Despite its utility, anhydrous HI poses significant health hazards, including severe respiratory, skin, and eye irritation. Proper handling, storage, and safety measures, including the use of personal protective equipment, are essential to ensure safe usage. Adequate ventilation and spill containment measures are also necessary to prevent exposure.
