Lacquers typically consist of resins dissolved in solvents, which evaporate to leave a hard, protective film. Despite their aesthetic and protective benefits, lacquers can be hazardous. The solvents used in lacquers are often volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that pose health risks, including respiratory and skin irritation. Lacquers are also flammable.
