Magnesium sulfate, also known as Epsom salt, is a white crystalline solid with the chemical formula MgSO₄, used in various industrial, agricultural, and pharmaceutical applications. It is employed as a fertilizer, a drying agent, and in water treatment. Magnesium sulfate is also used as a therapeutic agent in medicine for its laxative and anti-inflammatory properties. Despite its benefits, magnesium sulfate can cause skin and eye irritation if not handled properly. Proper handling, storage, and safety measures, including the use of personal protective equipment, are essential to ensure safe usage and prevent exposure. Adequate ventilation and spill containment measures are also necessary.
