Mesityl oxide is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with the chemical formula C₆H₁₀O, used in various industrial applications. It is primarily employed as a solvent in the production of coatings, inks, and adhesives, and as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Mesityl oxide is also used in the manufacture of synthetic resins and as a flavoring agent in foods and beverages. Despite its utility, mesityl oxide can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation if not handled properly.
