Octadecane, also known as n-octadecane, is a long-chain alkane with the chemical formula C18H38. It is a saturated hydrocarbon commonly found in paraffin wax and is used in various applications such as a phase change material, in organic synthesis, and as a standard in calorimetry. Octadecane is characterized by its high melting point and stable chemical properties. It is non-toxic and non-reactive, making it suitable for use in many industries including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and as a lubricant.
