Polyglycerol is a polymer formed by the polymerization of glycerol, resulting in molecules with multiple glycerol units linked together. It is used in food, cosmetics, and industrial applications due to its emulsifying, stabilizing, and moisturizing properties. In the food industry, polyglycerol esters are used as emulsifiers in baked goods, margarine, and confectionery products. In cosmetics, polyglycerol acts as a humectant and skin-conditioning agent, enhancing the moisture content and texture of formulations. Industrially, it is used in lubricants, coatings, and adhesives. Polyglycerol is generally regarded as safe, but proper handling requires protective gloves and goggles to avoid skin and eye irritation. Storage should be in tightly sealed containers to prevent moisture absorption and contamination. Disposal must follow local regulations to prevent environmental harm. Polyglycerol is valued for its multifunctional properties, making it a versatile ingredient in various products.
