XYLENE Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Xylene is an aromatic hydrocarbon with the chemical formula C₈H₁₀. It is a colorless, flammable liquid with a sweet odor, consisting of three isomers: ortho-xylene, meta-xylene, and para-xylene. Xylene is used as a solvent in the printing, rubber, and leather industries, as well as in the production of paints, varnishes, and adhesives. It is also used in the chemical industry as a feedstock for the manufacture of terephthalic acid, which is a precursor to polyester. Due to its volatile nature, xylene must be handled with care to avoid inhalation and skin contact.
