ALUMS Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Alums are a class of double sulfates containing a monovalent cation (such as potassium, sodium, or ammonium) and a trivalent cation (such as aluminum, chromium, or iron). Common examples include potassium alum and ammonium alum. Alums are widely used as coagulants in water treatment, mordants in dyeing and printing textiles, and in the manufacture of paper, leather, and cosmetics. They are also employed in baking powder and as astringents in medicinal applications. Alums are relatively non-toxic but can cause skin and eye irritation. Proper handling and storage are essential to ensure safety.
