Ammonium nitrate is a white crystalline compound with the chemical formula NH4NO3. It is widely used as a fertilizer and an oxidizing agent in explosives. Ammonium nitrate is also employed in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and in refrigeration systems. It is highly soluble in water and can cause skin and respiratory irritation upon exposure. Proper handling, storage, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are essential to ensure safety.
