Ammonium thioglycollate, also known as ammonium thioglycolate, is a white crystalline compound with the chemical formula NH4HSCH2CO2. It is used in the cosmetic industry for hair perming and straightening products due to its ability to break disulfide bonds in hair. Ammonium thioglycollate is also employed in the textile industry for wool processing. It can cause skin and eye irritation upon contact, so proper handling and storage are essential to ensure safety.
