Bitumen is a black, viscous liquid or semi-solid form of petroleum used primarily in road construction and roofing materials. It is composed of complex hydrocarbons and provides waterproofing and adhesive properties. Bitumen can cause skin and respiratory irritation upon exposure. Proper handling and storage are essential to ensure safety, and personal protective equipment (PPE) should be used to minimize contact.
