Heptane is a straight-chain alkane with the chemical formula C7H16. It is a colorless, volatile liquid with a mild odor, commonly used as a non-polar solvent in laboratories and industries. Heptane is a component of gasoline, contributing to its volatility and combustion properties. It is also used in the extraction of plant oils, as a cleaning agent, and in the formulation of adhesives and coatings.
