OLEUM Chemical compatibility with O-rings, rubbers, & plastics
Oleum, also known as fuming sulfuric acid, is a solution of sulfur trioxide (SO3) in sulfuric acid (H2SO4). It is a highly corrosive and reactive liquid, used primarily in the chemical industry for the sulfonation of organic compounds and in the manufacture of explosives, dyes, and pharmaceuticals. Oleum is also employed in the refining of petroleum and the production of detergents. Handling oleum requires extreme caution due to its ability to cause severe burns and respiratory damage. It is typically transported in specialized containers to prevent leaks and ensure safe handling.
