2-Methylpentane, also known as isohexane, is a branched-chain hydrocarbon with the chemical formula C6H14. It is a colorless, volatile liquid used as a solvent in various industrial and laboratory applications. 2-Methylpentane is also employed as a component in gasoline and in the production of synthetic rubber. Due to its high flammability and volatility, handling requires strict safety measures to prevent fire hazards and ensure proper ventilation. Exposure to 2-methylpentane can cause respiratory irritation and central nervous system effects. Proper storage and disposal are essential to ensure safety.
