Wood oil, commonly known as tung oil, is derived from the seeds of the tung tree (Vernicia fordii). It is a clear to pale yellow oil that hardens upon exposure to air, forming a tough, waterproof finish. Tung oil is widely used in woodworking and furniture finishing due to its durability and resistance to water, alcohol, and alkali. It penetrates deeply into the wood, enhancing the natural grain and providing a protective layer. Tung oil is also used in the production of oil-based paints, varnishes, and linoleum. It is valued for its eco-friendly, non-toxic properties.
