Zinc fluorosilicate is an inorganic compound with the formula ZnSiF₆. It is a white crystalline solid used primarily in the surface treatment of metals, particularly in the electroplating industry. The compound helps to improve the adhesion of zinc and other coatings to metal surfaces, providing enhanced corrosion resistance. Zinc fluorosilicate is also used in the preservation of wood, as it protects against decay and insect damage. Additionally, it finds applications in the production of ceramics and glass, where it acts as a flux to lower the melting temperature and improve the quality of the final products.
